XPO

XPO (eXPerimental and Observational facility on Aquatic Ecosystems) is a device aimed at characterizing biodiversity and understanding the functioning of continental aquatic ecosystems in a context of global change.
The approaches carried out mainly concern fishes, crustaceans and aquatic plants. The work is in ecology, ethology and ecotoxicology targeting three levels of organization: populations, communities and ecosystems.

XPO's facilities, located in Cestas-Gazinet and Saint-Seurin-sur-l'Isle, are organized in 5 poles:

XPO ensures the functioning and the management of human and material resources of these structures according to internal and external demands.
The person in charge of the system is Christine Gazeau, assisted by Eric Rochard, scientific referent.
Decisions are submitted to the EABX management team (Henrique Cabral and Juliette Rosebery) for approval.
XPO is referenced under the following DOI "Digital Object Identifier": https://doi.org/10.17180/BREY-MR38.
For any inquiries regarding the XPO device, please feel free to send an e-mail to contact-xpo@inrae.fr.

XPO is integrated in two Research Infrastructures.

The LIFE (Living In Freshwaters and Estuaries) infrastructure is a research infrastructure, which aims to make available to a large scientific community, skills, tools, data and means adapted to the issues surrounding the study, management and conservation of biodiversity in continental aquatic environments.  In a growing context of global and local environmental changes (overexploitation, water pollution, habitat degradation, flow modification, invasive species...), LIFE's mission is to identify the respective and interactive roles of the various anthropogenic pressures (local and global) impacting biodiversity in order to inform the decisions of population and environmental managers and to participate in their societal acceptance. The targeted environments are both water bodies (lakes or ponds) and watercourses (from upstream hair to estuaries). LIFE offers services and skills not only for fish but also for the entire biocenosis: microbial communities, plants (micro/macrophytes), zooplankton, invertebrates.

IR LIFE is composed of 4 entities: U3EECPOLA, XPO device. LIFE is, through its entities, a component of the national IR AnaEE and the integrated European IR AQUACOSM. LIFE has benefited from funding from the "Investments for the Future" program via AnaEE.

The AnaEE France (Analysis and Experimentation on Ecosystems) national infrastructure gives the scientific community, companies and civil society organizations access to the study of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems via experimental platforms located throughout mainland France and the French overseas territories. It also supports your projects by offering analytical platforms dedicated to the study of ecosystem functioning and biodiversity, as well as data production and modeling chains.

AnaEE-France is coordinated by CNRS, INRAE and Grenoble Alpes University.

The Ecole Normale Supérieure, Université d'Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse, Université de Savoie, Université de Bourgogne and Université de Rennes 1 are also participating institutions.
