Phytobs

Phytobs

Phytobs is an application dedicated to the microscopic counting of freshwater phytoplankton samples and to the banking of the corresponding data. It also allows the calculation of the lacustrine phytoplankton index (IPLAC).

Developed in the ECOVEA team since 2009, Phytobs is an open-source piece of software built around a database in mySQL and runs through an application created in JAVA.
It is based on a taxonomic list of phytoplankton taking into account the synonymy with phylogeny, the Sandre codes of taxa (Service d'Administration Nationale des Données et Référentiels sur l'Eau) and unitary biovolumes.
A specific module allows the calculation of biovolumes and the addition of personal taxa.
Export functions of the acquired data (pdf, csv and graphic format) are implemented. They provide data in the form of a worksheet, enumeration results (with biovolumes by algae groups and precision of potential cyanotoxins), and result tables with configurable fields. An export format dedicated to calculations in the SEEE (Système d'Evaluation de l'Etat des Eaux) is also available.
A module ensures the calculation of the IPLAC indicator, based on the phytoplankton community, to assess the ecological status of French water bodies (implementation of the WFD). The results are visible in the form of a synthesis file (pdf) and tables (csv) with intermediate results.
